Booly Mardys

Located in the West End of Glasgow this stylish cocktail bar has an impressive range of spirits and cocktails. Apart from being the subject of a celebrated trademark dispute that resulted in a change of name from Bloody Mary’s to Booly Mardy's the bar is also known for mixing the meanest martinis ever. With Beefeater, Hendricks and Plymouth there’s plenty of gin choice. The extensive cocktail list covers pretty much everything from the Breakfast Martini with Plymouth to Gin Tea with Hendrick’s to classic Red Snappers with Beefeater. In the summer the outdoor area is one of the nicest in the city.

Blue Dog

151 West George Street, Glasgow

Tel: 0141 229 0707

Blue Dog

Top bartenders' bar of choice in Glasgow is The Blue Dog. Opened last year, this funky, new bar is a laid back cocktail venue, designed like a modern day speakeasy. It's open till 2am on weekdays and 3am at the weekends and is a great place to quaff cocktails and listen to live music. Blue Dog's music is jazz based, with a piano in one corner for professional tinklers. A resident magician on Thursday evenings adds to the gaiety.

Blue Dog is the venue for those who enjoy the quality of their drinks. Hendrick's Gin is the house pour here and Plymouth is also a popular choice. Try them and other Gintime Movers and Shakers out in classic gin drinks such as the Gin Garden and the Singapore Sling or stick with the theme and go for the house speciality - a mean Martini.

Bar 10

This converted warehouse is Glasgow's original style bar and it's still as cool as it ever was. Black marble, tubular metal, high ceilings all contribute to the hip cosmopolitan ambience and the original design by interiors guru Ben Kelly has more than stood the test of time. Lots of gin here with Gordon's, Plymouth and Hendrick's gleaming out from behind the bar and delicious gin drinks that include the Sloe Gin Fizz. The friendly bar staff also love making Pink Gins. Bar 10's relaxed atmosphere attracts an eclectic crowd of early evening drinkers and pre clubbers entertained by DJ's spinning mellow tunes on weekend nights.

It all adds up to a stylish city centre complex for Glasgow's glitterati. There are three bars so you can choose from the glass domed gorgeousness of the main Lite Bar or a gentleman's club-style late night piano lounge and cocktail bar next door. Food is modern British and the cocktail list is heroic with all the stalwarts and some gin combinations that were new even to us.
