The Refectory

60 Southside St, Plymouth Devon, PL1 2LQ (Map)

Here’s a great idea – a cocktail bar located in the heart of a Distillery. Not just any old distillery either but the historic Blackfriars Distillery, home of Plymouth Gin in Devon, one of the oldest working distilleries in the country. The Refectory is the very oldest part of the distillery complex and dates back to the fifteenth century. It is said to be the place where the Pilgrim Fathers spent their last night on English soil and is steeped in history. Today that very room is a fabulously stylish bar with a gorgeous cocktail list of great Plymouth Gin specialties. Bar staff John, Matt and Magda are always friendly, open to answering any questions, happy to let you try new things and generous with advice. The Refectory is a members’ bar after 7.00 pm but temporary membership is usually available on the night. Take it from us there are few finer places to have the perfect cocktail than at the home of Plymouth Gin and we heartily recommend the unmissable Martini 5:1 – a combination of Plymouth Navy strength and Noilly Plat vermouth.
