New Gin Diploma Getting Rave Reviews

Maybe we’re a little bit biased here but we’re seeing fantastic feedback on the first sessions of the Gin Diploma course run by the Edinburgh Whisky Academy and taught by Gintime Editor Geraldine Coates.

The one-day course is believed to be the world’s first fully accredited diploma in gin awarded by the prestigious Scottish Qualifications Authority. That means you get a proper certificate and a recognised qualification when you pass the course. The Diploma covers six modules: History of Gin, Gin Renaissance, Definition of Gin, Distillation, Sensory and a final session on Cocktails made by the award winning bar team of the Edinburgh Sheraton.

Each course also includes a presentation by a top UK guest distiller who talks in depth about how his or her individual gin is made as well. So far the guest distillers’ slot has been filled by such luminaries as Tom Nichol, the creator of Tanqueray 10, and Jamie Baxter who has designed around 20 new distilleries in the UK. There’s also the opportunity to visit the Edinburgh Gin distillery nearby (not normally open to the public) to see gin stills in action. A major highlight of the whole experience is also the trip out to The Secret Herb Garden just outside Edinburgh the next day for an exclusive Gin Botanicals Workshop to learn more about the botanicals that go into gin.

The Gin Diploma course is held in Edinburgh at the very first home of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society – https://www.smws.com/about/venues/the-vaults and includes breaks for coffee and lunch. Whether you’re in the industry, thinking of starting your own distillery or a dedicated gin lover, the Gin Diploma is a fascinating and fun way to find out all you need to know about the juniper elixir. Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what one recent participant thinks – https://www.theginkin.com/2018/06/14/gin-tasting-edinburgh-diploma-ewa/

The next Gin Diploma will be held at The Vaults on July 19th with the Botanicals Workshop at the Secret Garden the following day on July 20th. Booking is easy here – https://www.edinburghwhiskyacademy.com/our-courses/calendar/

And as a special treat for Gintimers we’re able to offer 10% off the price of the course. All you have to do is follow us on Twitter @gintime and enter the code GINTIME into your booking request. Offer is limited to the first 3 people who book.
