Beefeater Distillery Opens its Doors in September

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

The Beefeater Gin Distillery in the heart of London is one of the city’s best kept secrets.  And, as part of “London Open City”, the Distillery will be opening its doors to the public on 18th and 19th September for free tours that take place every 30 minutes from 1-5pm with a maximum of 15 people per tour.

Visitors will be able to experience a moment of British history and learn how this iconic London spirit is made by going behind the scenes of the home of one of London’s most recognised brands. In the expert hands of Master Distiller Desmond Payne they will learn fascinating facts on the history of the spirit itself and view the array of botanicals used to create the gin first hand. Also as part of the tour, visitors will be able to view the original pot still used to steep and then distil the alcohol and botanicals before sampling the quintessential (and arguably) the best gin and tonic in the contemporary Beefeater branded bar.
It’s the perfect treat if visiting London or planning a day out with friends.

Tours must be pre-booked – just log onto the Open City website (www.londonopenhouse.org). But hurry, as spaces are limited.

Open City encourages Londoners to explore and re-examine their city, to debate how architecture affects their daily lives, and to discover and appreciate how they can really influence change in the built environment.

Beefeater Launches New Summer Gin

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Hot on the heels of the success of his last masterpiece Beefeater 24, Master Distiller Desmond Payne has created anexclusive limited edition version of the award-winning Beefeater Gin to celebrate summer. The Beefeater London Dry Summer Gin includes delicious new floral botanicals that capture the essence of summer including elderflower, hibiscus and blackcurrant. It’s a lighter style gin and is presented in the same distinctive bottle shape as the original Beefeater London, decorated with floral images to reflect the new botanicals.

Desmond Payne explains: “I wanted to create a gin that would be ideally suited to lighter summer drinks and take advantage of those rarer botanicals that are less available to remind consumers of the wonderful aromas and tastes of summer in a gin.”

Brand Director for Gins at Chivas Brothers Simon Burley adds: “Beefeater has a long-standing tradition of innovation stretching back to the days of James Burrough and we are committed to continuing this. Desmond has upheld this tradition with the highly acclaimed Beefeater 24 and we are delighted that he is continuing to break new ground in the gin category with the release of our new limited edition Summer gin.

Beefeater Brand Ambassador, Tim Stones, has created new cocktails to showcase the flavour of Beefeater Summer. Watch this space for details of how best to enjoy Beefeater Summer in a range of delicious drinks

Beefeater London Dry Summer Gin will be available from May 2010 in a Special Edition bottle for a limited period and will retail at £17.99.

Molecular Mixology meets Beefeater 24

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Renowned master of molecular mixology, Tony Conigliaro has created fantastic cocktails inspired by the unique blend of botanicals in Beefeater 24 to be served in his new bar, 69 Colebrooke Row.  These innovative cocktails challenge the senses in a completely new and unique way.  Tony chose Beefeater 24 – created only a year ago by Master Distiller, Desmond Payne – as the gin of choice for his new recipes because, as he explains: “The Beefeater 24 has strength and body.  The addition of green tea is inspired because it blends all of the flavours so well and goes with so many different kinds of ingredients”.

The Beefeater 24 Very Dry Martini

Dry Martini
Based on Tony’s studies of the tongue and flavour experience within the mouth, Tony has created this ultra dry cocktail using a high concentration distillation of polyphenols and tannins that are added to the vermouth.  When mixed with Beefeater 24 to make the martini it creates a drying sensation in the mouth resulting in the ultimate aperitif

Beefeater 24 Japanese Tea

Japanese Tea
This most visual of cocktails draws inspiration from the key green tea botanical utilised in Beefeater 24. Tony’s conecpt was to create a drink which had an element of ceremony in the serve, hence the idea of drinking from the glass with two hands and a garnish of green tea bean curd linking back to the tea notes.
